Some companies still use balancing equipment which uses the rim’s center hole and a cone for centering. This is not accurate. If the rims center hole is out of tolerance, and many of them are, the tire/rim assembly will have a lateral (side to side) or a radial (up-down) motion and cannot be balanced properly. Most newer balancers use a “lug-centric” centering system in which the tire/rim assembly is centered using the rim bolt holes. This is the preferred method.
